Hallmarked sterling silver case, 55mm in diameter. Watch has a center sweep second hand and a slide switch to start and stop the watch for calibration [a "hack" button]. Ca. 1884

Movement is signed "Jos^h [Joseph] Brookes, London" and has an ornate hand pierced balance cock, squared "Egyptian" pillars, a hand pierced ornament near the fusee and the older "Tompion" style regulator. Very unusual old English verge fusee with a hallmarked sterling silver pair case. Movement is marked "J. Richens" and the hallmarks on the case date it to ca. 1830. This watch is distinguished by an extremely unusual dial that uses a central sun-moon wheel to differentiate between the A.M, and P.M. hours.

Unmarked English lever fusee pocket watch, 50mm in diameter. Sterling silver case. Probably only 7 or so jewels. Very unusual, however, in that it has an up-down wind indicator. Ca. 1887

Key wind pocket watch with a rare "Chinese duplex" movement and a center second hand. Probably Swiss made for the Chinese market. Silver hunter case measures 2 1/4 inches in diameter. Ca. mid to late 1800's.

Very old Waltham pocket watch. 18 size, Model 1857, "Appleton, Tracy & Co." Key wind and key set. 15 sapphire jewels. The watch is encased in a beautiful and very heavy solid 18 karat gold hunter case with wonderful engine turning on the front and back. The serial number is only 21772, which dates it to about 1860.

Really nice old English verge fusee with a hallmarked sterling silver pair case. Key wind and set. Approximately 60mm in diameter. Movement is marked "Chas [Charles] Walford, Kidderminster" and has a hand pierced balance cock. Hallmarks date this one to 1821.

Swiss made calendar pocket watch in a lovely 0.800 silver case. 48mm in diameter. Stem wind and pin set. Has two subsidiary dials which tell the day of the week and the day of the month. Movement has a lever escapement and 15 jewels. Ca. late 1800's to early 1900's.

VERY early Waltham pocket watch. 18 Size, Model 1857, "Dennison, Howard & Davis". Key wind and key set. 15 jewels. Engraved hunter case is probably 18-Karat gold. Dates to about 1855, the company's fourth year in existence.

This is a lovely Hebdomas-style 8 day pocket watch with a distinctive exposed balance wheel. About 50mm in diameter. Stem wind and pin set. The movement cover is marked "ANCRE", LEVES VISIBLE", "SPIRAL BREGUET , "8 DAYS", "8 JOURS", "8 DIAS", "QUALITE SUPERIEURE GARANTIE" and "SWISS MADE". Circa the late 1800's or early 1900's.

This is a Waltham railroad watch made specifically for the Ball Watch Company. It is size 16, stem wind, lever set, adjusted to 5 positions and has 21 jewels. Ball watches are among the most highly prized railroad approved pocket watches. Ca. 1915.

Hampden "John Hancock" railroad grade pocket watch. 18 size, stem wind, lever set, 21 jewels. Heavy gold filled hunter (perhaps brass) case with gorgeous engravings on both the front and back. Stunning fancy glass enamel dial. Ca. 1898.

E. Howard & Co. pocket watch. "N" size [close to a size 18] Series VII with 15 jewels. Stem wind and pendant set. Original hands and dial, replacement case. Ca. 1880-1889.
Without original case, only $300 or so.
Keystone Howard Series 11 "Railroad Chronometer". Size 16, 21 jewels, adjusted to temperature and 5 positions, stem wind and lever set. Housed in an original Howard gold-filled swing out case. Ca. 1917.

Elgin Size 16, Model 7, Grade "162" with 21 jewels. Stem wind, pendant set. Gorgeous 3-finger bridge movement with gold jewel settings and a gold train. Housed in a nice gold-filled open face case. Ca. 1896.

Very unusual double dial calendar watch in a niello hunter case. Probably Swiss made. 55mm in diameter. Front dial tells the time, rear dial tells the day and date. Ca. 1900.

Elgin 18 Size Model #8, "Veritas" railroad approved pocket watch. It is stem wind and lever set and has 23 jewels. It is housed in a nice plain-polished Silverode case. The serial number of 8400348 dates it to about 1900.

American Waltham Watch Company, 18 size, Model #1877, "Appleton, Tracy & Co." grade in a nice gold-filled hunter case. 15 jewels. Originally key wind and key set, later fitted with Abbott's Stem Wind Conversion and is now stem wind and lever set. Ca. 1883
Unknown. Basic watch would be $150 or so, but does stem-wind conversion help (unsual) or hurt (not original)?
Another really nice old English-made lever fusee center second "chronograph" watch with a start stop calibration feature. Hallmarked sterling silver case measures about 55mm in diameter. Key wind and key set and appears to have at least 11 jewels. Movement and dial both marked "E. WOLFE SUNDERLAND 58006". Ca.1882.

18 size Waltham Model #1883 with 15 jewels. Stem wind, pendant set and marked "adjusted". Has a number of interestng features, including a strangely lettered dial, a "frosted" movement and a special dustproof case. ca. 1888.

This is a Swiss-made quarter hour repeater in a sterling silver hunter case. It measures approximately 50mm in diameter and probably dates to the early 1900's. It is stem wind and pendant set and the movement has a lever escapement and 15 jewels. The repeater function is activated by a button near the 6.

This is a Size 18 Waltham Model #1877, "P.S. Bartlett" grade in a nice gold-filled open face case. It has 11 jewels and is key wind from the rear and key set from the front. The serial number of 1,656863 dates it to about 1882.

This is a very unusual Swiss-made keywind pocket watch from the late 1800's. It has a special 24-hour dial, and the hour hand actually takes 24 hours to revolve around the dial.

Wonderful old high grade fusee pocket watch made by M. I. Tobias of Liverpool, England. It measures 50mm in diameter, has a Massey Type II escapement, and is key wind and key set. The watch is housed in a solid 18K gold open-face case which bears English hallmarks dating to 1824.

This is an 18 size, 17 jewel Waltham Model #1883, "Santa Fe Route" Grade. Stem wind and lever set, marked "adjusted". Ca. 1896.

This pocket watch was made by the United States Watch Company of Marion, NJ. It is an 18 size "Marion Watch Company" model, "G.A. Read" grade, with 7 jewels. Has the distinctive "butterfly shaped" cut-out on the movement. Gold-filled hunter case. Ca late 1860's to early 1870's.

Verge fusee in a sterling silver triple-case made expressly for the Turkish market by George Prior of London. Movement measures only 28mm in diameter! Keywind and keyset. Ca 1810-1820.

16 size, 23 jewel, Hamilton "950" prestige pocket watch. Stem wind and pendant set, adjusted to five positions. Gold screw-down jewel settings and a solid gold train. Housed in an especially fine gold-filled case. Ca. 1912.

This is a Hamilton Model #21 Marine Chronometer. These were used by the U.S. Navy as ships timepieces and were basically the most accurate timepieces ever designed. In good running condition, these can keep time to within a few seconds per week! The Model #21 has 14 jewels, an oversized fusee movement and an up-down wind indicator. The serial number on this one is 6019 and it dates to about 1945.
$1000, as displayed (much more with original wooden box). On "permanent loan" to the watch repair shop, alas.
This is a Waltham 8-day watch that has been set up as a marine chronometer. It is stem wind and pendant set, has 15 jewels, and has wind indicator. The watch is housed in a gimbaled brass tub which has been set into an inner and outer wooden box. Ca. 1920
Unknown. No longer in my collection.
