This is a Size 18 Waltham Model #1877, "Appleton, Tracy & Co." grade in a nice gold-filled hunter case. It has 15 jewels and the serial number of 1,882821 dates it to about 1883. This watch was originally key wind and key set. However, it was later fitted with Abbott's Stem Wind Conversion and is now stem wind and lever set. Abbott patented his invention in 1881 and it was used to convert a variety of different watch models made by Waltham, Elgin and Illinois. As with all Abbott's Stem Wind Conversion watches, the lever set on this watch moves up and down instead of pulling out like most lever set watches.
