This is an 18 size Waltham Model #1883 with 15 jewels. The serial number [3518239] dates it to about 1888. It's stem wind and pendant set, is marked "adjusted", and has a number of interesting features. First of all, the dial features the name of the company in what I can only describe as "Wavy" letters. I don't know how common this is, but this is the first time I've seen it like that. Second, the movement has a lovely "frosted" damasceening, as opposed to the normal gilt or nickel damasceening. Finally, the watch is housed in a really special gold-filled "dustproof" case that, instead of having a front and rear bezels, has two circular "plugs" that screw in place to hold the crystal and protect the movement. All in all, a nifty watch!
