This is a wonderful old key wind and key set watch made by the United States Watch Company of Marion, NJ. It is an 18 size "Marion Watch Company" model, "G.A. Read" grade, with but 7 jewels. What makes these "Marion Watch Company" watches so unusual is the small "butterfly shaped" cut-out in the movement plate, which allows the escapement to be viewed. The watch is housed in a nice gold-filled hunter case. The serial number of the watch is 111803, but a lack of records for this company means I can only date it to between 1865 and 1877.
