NOTES:
- The current Dansco 7070 album does not include a hole for the Type II Indian Head Gold Dollar (also known as the "Small Head" Dollar), presumably because it is relatively rare and expensive. The coin was struck for only three years (1854-56), with only 24,600 struck at the San Francisco mint in 1856, and is therefore much rarer than the Type I and Type II gold dollars (only 783,943 were minted in 1854, compared to more than 4 million Type I gold dollars that were minted in 1853). The example in my collection has been professionally graded and slabbed, which is why the image looks a bit odd compared to the other coins.
- The current Dansco 7070 album also does not include a hole for the $3 Gold Piece, presumably because it is relatively rare (just over 535,000 pieces were minted for all years) and expensive. At least it was relatively expensive back when gold was only worth $300 or so per ounce and the numismatic value of the coin far outweighed the gold value. Now that gold is around $1200 per ounce (as of April 2015), the value of this coin in good condition is significantly less than the cost of a $20 Double Eagle.
